Griff walked behind some kids to get into a boat and he sat down in a group of girls. He gave them a shy smile and they giggled in their little corner. His smile was dampened as rain started dropping from the sky but it bothered him not and he gave a wink to the girls. His white hair grew and grew till it was longer than him and suddenly it started raising in the air. Wen he was done a large umbrella was made from his hair, covering everyone in the boat and getting a few hugs in thanks.

Selana nearly fell out of the boat as a particuarly nasty gale of wind swept past. Lily caught her arm and pulled her back.
"Thanks."
"No problem."
Selana sighed in relief when they reached the shore. Inside the castle it was nice and dry.

Griff laughed softly as he and the girls talked aimlessly. They really seemed to warm to him after he had saved them from a horrible drenching and he must say he was liking this feminine attention. He smiled but it quickly fell when they reached the shore. " Ladies I think we're going to depart company soon." They sighed sadly too but he just made sure to keep his umbrella hair up as they walked under and out of the boat.

Professor McGonnagle was standing in the foyer.
"Welcome students. In a few moments you will be sorted into your houses..."
Selana knew that Severus wanted to be in Slytherin. He also wanted both girls to go with him. Lily and Selana both wanted to go to Gryffindor however.

Griffin stopped to see an old woman speaking about being sorted. He looked around hearing people talk about the different houses they wanted to be in. He didn't even know the names so he stood their waiting for it to just hurry up and happen.

"If you will follow me, please." Professor McGonnagle said.
She turned and walked toward the big , double doors at the end of the entry hall. Every face in the dining hall turned to the first years. Selana felt her face burn in embaressment at all the attention. A few people smiled encouragingly, but most just stared.

Jacklyn was so exited that her hair turned fiery red and her eyes bacame jet black. A few people sniggered. She watched intently as the first years made their way down the hall.

Griff walked in with the rest of the first year nervous for reasons he didn't know. He had no idea that the house he was going to be chosen in would be the one he had to live with for the reast of his years at this school and he couldn't imagine what effect it would have on who he hung at with and how he became as a person. All he cared about was the people staring at them and muttering.

There was an old hat sitting on a stool on a platform. when all the students gathered around, it burst into song. The song was about itself and the four houses. At the end it sang:
And be ye of stout heart.
For a battle is soon to start.
And watch the shadows in the night.
For the future shall not be bright.
Professor McGonnagle gave the instuctions to come up and put the sorting hat on when your name was called. She began reading through the list. She didn't even seem fazed by the warning.
"James Potter." was put in Gryffindor. Selana reconized him as one of the boys on the train. Sirius Black was the other one.
The list continued on.
"Selana Ringstone."
Selana gulped and walked up. She put the hat on.
"Hmmm..." a voice sounded in her ear. "Kind and shy. I'd say a Hufflepuff. But also a potential for bravery, a Gryffindor..."
"Please Mr. Hat." Selana thought. "I want to be in Gryffindor."
"Well then, we'll put you in GRYFFINDOR!"
The entire Gryffindor table errupted in applause.

Griff didn't even listen to the talking hat's song as he was to scared to even breathe. When it finished he was staring around in amazement the fact that he was a wizard really kicking in now. Soon a wide smile found its way to his face and he was giddy with excitement. He was rubbing his hands anxiously as the line got closer to the hat and he was called up next.
" Griffin Giovanni."
Griff clapped his hands together and walked up taking a seat and then feeling the dusty hat plop down on his head.
"Slytherin!!"
He had been under it for only a second and jumped when the voice rang out. He smiled letting the hat be taken off and walked over to the table that was cheering under a snake banner. Everyone wore green and it seemed they liked him so he smiled and changed. His skin became scale and a forked tongue darted from his mouth as he smile. They cheered even louder and he was clapped on the back by some happy house members.

ooc- gonna skip a little ways
After the feast, the Gryffindors headed up to their dorm. A really bossy prefect led the way. Selana and Lily were bumped into by the boys named Sirius and James.
"Oh sorry." said James. "Didn't see you there."
A charming smile lit up his face. Sirius rolled his eyes. Then he caught sight of Selana.
"Your that girl from the train!"
"There were a lot of girls on the train." said Lily.
Sirius rolled his eyes again. He ignored Lily.
"Why didn't you come sit with us?"
Selana felt the heat rise to her face.
"I..." she started.
"Oh, don't bug her, Sirius." scolded James. He smiled at Selana and ruffled his hair. "If you ever need a friend then you can come to us." he said.
Selana flushed even deeper. Lily dragged her to the girls dorm without letting her say goodbye.
